Across the Heart of Texas, families are feeling the strain. With the federal government shutdown and the delay in SNAP benefits, thousands of parents, seniors, and veterans are wondering how they’ll put food on the table this week.

At EOAC, we hear from them every day. A Head Start parent worried about the next grocery trip. A senior deciding between groceries and prescriptions. A veteran facing another month of unpaid bills. These are not statistics. They’re our neighbors, and the strain is growing.

When programs like SNAP are delayed, the effects ripple far beyond food. Families fall behind on rent, utilities, and medical care. Texas food banks are already seeing increased demand, and the lines will only grow longer if support stalls further.

Even as the pressure builds, EOAC remains faithful to our mission and serving our families. Through Head Start, more than 550 children in our care continue to receive nutritious meals each day. Our Community Services team is helping connect families to emergency food, utility, and rent assistance. And while every dollar of our annual funding is already committed, our staff keeps finding creative ways to help.

We’re built for moments like this. What we need now are partners—people and organizations willing to give flexibly, so we can respond where the need is greatest. That’s how we keep the safety net intact.

To the families we serve, our partners and neighbors, we see you and we’re here with you.

When others see uncertainty, we see responsibility. And when the safety net feels thin, EOAC stands ready, grounded in the belief that everyone deserves stability and dignity.
