Thursday was a powerful reminder of what can happen when strong community partnerships come together with a shared purpose. Families received meaningful support, and hope was restored across the Heart of Texas.
EOAC was proud to host a successful Energy Assistance Event in partnership with Atmos Energy and Austin Avenue Methodist Church. Together, we served hundreds of families who needed help with utility bills, past-due balances, disconnected services, and other energy-related concerns.
Thanks to the generosity of Atmos Energy and the hospitality of Austin Avenue Methodist Church, we were able to assist one of the largest groups of individuals ever served at an event of this kind.
A Partnership That Makes Real Impact
Atmos Energy continues to demonstrate a deep commitment to strengthening the communities it serves. Their support ensured that families received immediate and tangible relief. Assistance provided through this event helped keep lights on, restore service, and reduce financial pressure for households already facing difficult circumstances.
We are equally grateful to Austin Avenue Methodist Church for opening their doors and creating a welcoming and accessible environment. When families are navigating financial hardship, the setting matters. A space that feels safe and supportive changes the entire experience.
This collaboration reflects what community action truly looks like in practice. A utility provider investing in community well-being. A faith partner providing space and hospitality. A nonprofit coordinating services and connecting families to resources. Together, we stood in the gap.

Events like this do not happen without thoughtful planning and dedicated leadership. We are especially proud of Kanisha Johnson, EOAC’s Director of Community Programs, and her incredible team.
Under Kanisha’s leadership, the Community Programs team worked diligently to coordinate logistics, communicate with families, review documentation, and ensure that each person was treated with dignity and respect. Their compassion and professionalism made a significant difference for every individual who walked through the doors.

The feedback from participants was powerful and deeply moving.
Many shared how grateful they were for the accessibility of the location and the welcoming atmosphere. Others expressed relief that assistance was provided clearly and efficiently. Several families noted how meaningful it was to feel heard and supported during a stressful time.
For families facing financial strain, receiving help quickly can relieve more than a bill. It restores confidence and reminds them they are not alone.
