When Ms. Loyd enrolled her son in EOAC Head Start, she was a dedicated full-time working mother doing everything she could to support her family. She hoped to give her son a strong start — and through her determination and collaboration with the Head Start team, that hope has grown into a story of resilience, progress, and partnership.
Shortly after her son began school, Head Start staff noticed some behavioral and developmental concerns. To better understand his needs, an Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) screening was completed, and a multidisciplinary staffing was scheduled. Rather than being a setback, this was the start of a strong support system forming around her family.
As the team continued to monitor his progress, they recognized that a temporary half-day schedule would give him the safest and most supportive environment while an individualized behavior plan was put in place. For many parents, this could feel overwhelming — but this is where Ms. Loyd’s strength showed through.
She expressed her concerns honestly, especially about how the schedule change might affect her job. And as she did, she allowed the Head Start team to do what they do best: listen, support, and stand beside her. Staff reassured her that she didn’t have to face these challenges alone and encouraged her to continue accessing the resources and services available to her son.
And then, in true form, Ms. Loyd took a difficult moment and turned it into an opportunity.
Just a short time later, she returned with incredible news — she had secured a new position with Amazon, one that offered a schedule far better suited for her son’s temporary needs and her family’s long-term stability. Her determination, resilience, and willingness to advocate for her child made this possible.
Today, her son is receiving the behavioral and developmental support he needs, and Ms. Loyd continues to move forward with confidence and hope.
